Steppin' Out is not only the area's premier festival. It has become the Town of Blacksburg's very own family reunion. Crowds have been estimated at more than 45,000 for the weekend - always the first Friday and Saturday in August.

Celebrating its 40th year, this annual Blacksburg tradition is visited by over 35,000 people. Featuring
top-name local, regional and national bands, 200+ artisans and crafters from all over the country and
50 local businesses, this is the premier summer festival in the New River Valley. Steppin’ Out® is
consistently voted the Best Community Event in the Roanoke Times annual poll and was recognized by
Virginia Living magazine in its selection of Best of Virginia.
Eligible Participants: Vendors of food and beverages; vendors of handmade (not buy/sell) arts and
crafts; and any DBI merchant members.
All vendors must read, sign and return the Festival Guidelines document available below.

Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. acknowledges the potential dangers to the environment which can be caused by helium filled balloons. Therefore the use of helium balloons at festivals and events presented by Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. will not be permitted.
Balloons filled with helium are not allowed to be sold, given away, on display, or in the booth of any vendor. Balloons that are not filled with helium, such as water balloons and balloons used to create balloon animals are allowed but must be correctly disposed of in a trash can after use. Policy Adopted October 2014.
